As our last assignment, we were asked to create an online portfolio. My website demonstrates some of my journalism pieces, a visual resume, and other projects. Check it out here!

3 INTERRELATED SYSTEMS IN COMPOSITION

1) Information Value

 horizontal

left –> right      given (already agreed upon)  –> new (can pose new questions and be problematic)

This stems all the way back to our roots of language. It is logical based on psychology and sequential knowledge.

vertical

top –> bottom   ideal (pathos/ethos) –> real (logos)

center

center –> margin  nucleus (concepts)  –> subordinate (supportive details)

2) Salience: how much or how little certain elements draw your attention ranking of importance through strategies such as color, size, & contrast

3) Framing: elements represented as connected or disconnected, or disconnected to each other

So why delve into such gritty information? Each of these systems can be applied to our next assignment …
